Our Church History

The Baptist people of McBee met with representatives from the Baptist state office on September 14, 1911.  Twenty-five persons with their letters constituted McBee Baptist Church.  Five members presented themselves for baptism.  The Presbyterian Church extended an invitation to use their building for worship.  The first pastor was B.D. Thames (1913) and there were 25 members.  The church acquired a building in 1915 that was previously used as a school building.  During 1919 the church affiliated with the Chesterfield Baptist Association.  There were 127 enrolled in 1937 and 135 active in Sunday School.  In 1949 Sunday school rooms were added also.  A new sanctuary was constructed in 1953, and in 1958 the pastorium was built.  McBee Baptist Church was the mother church of Pine Ridge Mission, which is now Pine Ridge Baptist Church.  In September of 1961, McBee Baptist Church was paid for and an organ was purchased for the church.  The church went full time in 1974, pressing forward on what God had in store for them in the future.  A beautiful new steeple was added to McBee Baptist in 1975.  In 1981 the church purchased a van for church use.  Also in 1989 a new sound system and a new organ were purchased.

2004 Update

In 2004 the church purchased a major upgrade to the audio-visual system in the church.  The improvements included the relocation of sound and video controls to the rear of the sanctuary from the choir loft.  The existing equipment was installed in the fellowship hall along with a large, ceiling mounted television. A television was also installed in the nursery to enable workers to engage in the service while tending to the smaller children.  A camera system was installed to allow the church to record services.   Finally, a large, retractable screen and digital video projector was installed and is used for PowerPoint presentations, movies and general viewing of various other materials.

It was also in 2004 that the church initially launched their presence on the internet and installed wireless networking from the parsonage to the church study and newly installed media center.  This move allowed the church to provide a wealth of information and resources to both members and prospects.

2006 Update

In 2006 the church embarked upon a restoration project for the interior of the sanctuary and exterior windows and trim.  Necessary repairs and maintenance was performed to give our house of worship a fresh look and feel.  Cracks and scuffs that had plagued this main part of the building for sometime are now long gone.

During our deacon rotation this year we voted to bring Lynn Jackson and Jiggs Clark while David Earle rotated off.  Mr. Bobby Blackwell remained as chairman and Pat Earle served as vice-chairman.
